Hello. I’m Nilakash.
More precisely, it’s Nilakash Roy-Faderman (pronouns he/him/his). I’m a composer.
My work explores the parts of nature that we don’t like to think about - the alien, disgusting, and dangerous. I’m interested in the interaction of the human and the monstrous.
The music that I write is generally programmatic, attempting to situate listeners within specific places and times. My work often finds itself situated in bodies of water - the hostile torpor of bogs, the alien ecosystem of the abyssal zone, and the hungry desert of the open ocean. I create a picture for my listener, to immerse them in a space and experience.
I’m also a fiction writer and essayist, a worldbuilder, and a creator of constructed languages (check out my blog if you want to know what the last two mean). My fiction (both writing and worldbuilding), like my music, is concerned with the way societies interact with the natural world around them, and the interactions between the human (or human-like) and the alien.
